Gov. Gavin Newsom needs to take swift action and use his executive powers to override the commission and immediatel­y start this project and many other desal plants along the coastline. Also, San Diego and other cities need to institute a building moratorium until we have the water needed to support new constructi­on.

It is a fact that we are having a statewide drought. Why is there not a building moratorium in place? New houses, hotels and convention centers all use water, but the amount of water they will need is never discussed. But I am supposed to conserve. Why should I save water so that someone else can use it?

Find those who helped Trump take documents

Re “Mar-a-lago search just part of one of several Trump probes” (Aug. 9): Donald Trump did not personally go to the National Archives and load boxes of top-secret documents onto the moving trucks himself.

That raises the very important question as to who in the White House and/or National Archives oversaw or facilitate­d the removal of the boxes found at Mar-a-lago.

Breen editorial cartoon was packed with humor

Re “Boxed in” (Aug. 11): I want to say kudos to Steve Breen for the Trump editorial cartoon in the paper.
