IN OPENING WIN, RAMONA FINDS ITS QB IN LESTER

- BY JOHN MAFFEI

Over the summer, Ramona coach Damon Baldwin used three quarterbacks. Dillon May, Azlan Enriquez and Colin Lester all got equal time in 7-on-7 tournaments.

“All three got 500 snaps,” said Baldwin. “Devin Sobczak took almost every snap last season, so we didn’t have a guy coming back.

“We wanted all three guys to get a fair shake.”

Friday night, the Bulldogs found their man as Lester, a senior who threw three passes last season, started and completed 14 of 18 passes for 184 yards and a TD, and he scored on two short runs in a 28-0 season-opening win over Christian.

Enriquez and May also saw time at quarterback Friday, and Enriquez had a big day at receiver, catching seven passes for 109 yards. Ramona’s defense held Christian to 111 yards, 47 rushing, forcing five turnovers — three interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries.

This was only time in the last 128 games that Christian had been shut out.
