Bautista to help lead UCSD events; other job moves

Lynn Bautista is the new director of advancement events in the Special Events and Protocol Department at UC San Diego.

The job is a promotion for Bautista, who has been with the university for more than 16 years, most recently serving as an events specialist for UCSD’S Advancement Signature Events. She started in her new role Aug. 1.

The university’s Special Events and Protocol Department coordinates and manages more than 100 events each year for campus and community members, dignitaries, donors and other stakeholders.

The events range from campus traditions and celebrations to groundbreaking ceremonies and intellectual gatherings that draw world-renowned leaders in academia, business, government and more.

Most exciting thing about her new role: “(It’s exciting to be) a UC San Diego alum, continuing to work in the field that I love while the university has so many accomplishments to celebrate.”

One thing she has learned about herself in the past year: “I’ve learned you are truly your own best advocate. I’ve also learned that making an extra effort to balance out my home life and health has helped me be more mindful and productive during the most challenging times at work.”

One piece of career advice or encouragement for others: “Identify (and seek out) mentors in your workplace or profession. They will not only help guide you in your career path and goals, but will often become some of your biggest cheerleaders.”

Other career moves

Dr. Ronald Ramirez is the new dean of the College of Business Administration (COBA) at Cal State San Marcos. His appointment was announced in April and he stepped into the role in July, coming from University of Colorado-denver, Business School where he served as associate dean of programs.

Justin Umpierre has joined Home of Guiding Hands in San Diego as respite program director.

Alison Crane has accepted a position as family advocate at YMCA of San Diego County.

Gilbert Munoz is starting a new position as staff accountant at the County of San Diego.

Chris Biele is the new director of sales and marketing at ASM Global Official’s Pechanga Arena in San Diego.

Alvin Henry is starting a new position as founding director and associate professor of Asian American Studies at San Diego State University.

Taylor Trinidad has a new role as manager, HR Business Partnerships, at San Diego Regional Airport Authority.

Shannon Reynolds recently accepted a new position as social media specialist at Rady Children’s Hospital-san Diego.
