Robert Lynch
February 15, 1938 - September 8, 2022
ESCONDIDO — Bob was the second son born to Lucy (Thibault) Lynch and Lawrence Mark Lynch Sr. in Syracuse, New York. He grew up in the suburbs where he and a friend drove to Key West, Florida and flew to Havana Cuba. They were two of the last Americans to visit Cuba before the shutdown.
He graduated high school in 1955, at age 17, and enrolled the same year in Syracuse University School of Architecture, a five-year course. He graduated in 1960, at age 22, and moved to Los Angeles, California. It was there that he met Gordon C. Danielson, who had studied architecture at UC Berkley, and they began a relationship that would last 42 1/2 years.
Bob rose through the ranks to become Director of Panning at Cannell and Chaffin Commercial Design and Architecture. He specialized in the
relatively new field of Professional Interior Space Planning and was eagerly sought after for work in most of the Los Angeles high rise buildings as well as in many other states, including Mexico City, Mexico. He managed a staff of planners in each of the companies six locations across the country, even Hawaii. The company also designed corporate headquarter buildings.
Bob was responsible for Georgia Pacific in Portland, Oregon, and Augusta Georgia’s Ore-ida Foods in Boise, Idaho, and Heinz Foods in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and many others. He also re-planned President Nixon’s personal law firm in New Port Beach, California while their Residential Division created the Western White House in San Clemente, California. He was considered one of the three top planners on the West Coast.
In 1980, Bob and Gordon left their Mulholland Drive home and settled in the hills of southeast Escondido, California. They traveled extensively in Egypt, the Greek Isles, Greece and Italy. Later they spent a month in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. In addition to visiting 48 of our 50 states, they sailed on many cruises in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Montreal, Canada, the Mexican Riviera, Hawaii, and Alaska. They also enjoyed Victoria, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
They downsized from their large home, where they frequently entertained, to the east side of the Country Club where Gordon suffered his first stroke in 2000. Bob became a full-time caregiver. They moved to the south side of the Country Club into Citrus Gardens, an upscale senior community where Gordon had his final stroke in 2005.
Bob survived prostate cancer and continued to live among his caring, supportive and wonderful neighbors.
Bob is survived by his nephew Lawrence Mark Lynch III (Joan) of Auburn, California and their two sons, Niece Lou Ann Palmer (Steve) of Warners, New York and their son, and Gordon’s nephew David Danielson (Jack Kramer) of Knab, Utah. He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence Mark Lynch Jr. (Marilyn) of Escondido, California, and niece Lorraine Enright (David) of Rochester, New York
Bob is to be interred at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills in the companion vault with Gordon. No services are to be held. Please sign the Guest Book online obituaries.sandiegouniontribune.com
