SAN DIEGO — Wanda was born on February 10, 1931 in Tokyo, Japan. She met Joe Howell while he was stationed in Japan, serving in the United States Army. They married on February 15, 1951. Military life took them all over the world, including Germany, Oklahoma, Washington, Texas, and Alabama. Along the way, they had four children. Many years were spent in Rialto, CA while Joe and Wanda worked and the children went to school. Wanda became a skilled seamstress and later, a hair stylist. After retirement, they moved to San Diego.

Wanda passed on September 17, 2022. She is survived by her four children, James (Vicky) of Chico, Sandra Mcginley, Pat (Roland) Howell Schmidt, and Judy Jo Howell Worrell of Alta Loma. She also had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

At various times in her life, she loved studying languages, exercising, playing Lotto, puzzles, bowling, all things Elvis, chocolate, movies, going to the San Diego Zoo, and frequent laughter.

Mama T was a kind, thoughtful, always helpful, active, fun and humorous mother who will be missed for her great love for her family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Belmont Village in Sabre Springs for their excellent support and care given to our mother, especially by Virgie.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s San Diego Association at www.alzsd.org. Wanda will be interned at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. To celebrate her life, go to Dairy Queen and have a Blizzard!

May she rest in peace. Please sign the Guest Book online obituaries.sandiegouniontribune.com
