Speeding car hits home in La Mesa; two injured
A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed veered off Spring Street, went airborne over an embankment and hit the second story of a house in La Mesa on Saturday.
The crash happened about 10:30 a.m.
Two occupants of the car, a late model Mercedes, were taken to a hospital with significant injuries, Heartland Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Sam Rihan told Onscene TV. A woman inside the house was not injured.
The building, on Palm Avenue near High Street, had major damage to the wall and a window where the vehicle hit, footage from Onscene TV showed. The car fell partially onto a retaining wall and a gas meter at the street level. San Diego Gas & Electric employees secured the gas line, Rihan said.
A La Mesa building inspector was called to investigate, he said. No further information was available.
