MAY EVERYONE APPRECIATE THE MIRACLES THAT ARE AROUND US

- BY DONNA FRYE

My wish for all people this coming year is that they are able to see and appreciate the little miracles that happen in their lives every day.

As an example, one day in December, I went to the post office to drop off my packages, but it was not open yet. I looked to see if there was a place to drop them off when along came Benny, a mail carrier who offered to take my packages. I thanked him profusely and he said he was just doing his job. That’s true, I suppose, but to me it was a milagro —a miracle that made my day easier and happier because of him.

The Postal Service is a blessing all year but especially at the holidays. It brings gifts from our loved ones and delivers the gifts we send. I cannot forget the lovely mail carrier, Melinda, who showed up at our door with a package and a big beautiful smile. As luck would have it, I had a package that needed to be shipped sitting ready at the door and asked her if she would take it. She laughed and said, of course, that is what she does. But she made my life so much easier that day because I was late for an appointment and her kindness saved me the trip to the post office. Another little miracle.

And there are millions of miracle workers out there in the world such as

Frye is a former San Diego City Council member. She lives in Clairemont. When the world feels like it is spinning out of control and it’s hard to hold on, I will try to remember the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson who said, ‘The invariable mark of wisdom is to see the miraculous in the common.’
