Astrology-inspired restaurant opens in North Park

Seventh House, a new French-baja California restaurant in North Park, is serving up mystical entertainment alongside its creative culinary fare.

“Seventh House (has) tarot inspiration,” said co-owner Preston Cobb. “We wanted to bring a different (kind of ) food service ... something cocktail driven that doesn’t feel like a regular restaurant where you have five courses.”

The University Avenue restaurant specializes in brunch, crudos and specialty cocktails. The twist: guests can accompany their meals with a table-side tarot card reading (during dinner only.)

Cobb is the interior design creative behind Farmer’s Table and Smokey and The Brisket BBQ in La Mesa. He said menu standouts at Seventh House range from European-inspired brunch items like the shrimp Francese with scrambled eggs and shrimp, to a 21-day dry aged rib eye steak.

“Down the road, we definitely plan on having night-time entertainment, (perhaps) henna painting,” Cobb said. “We want a more mystical feel to it... A mysterious feel.”

Seventh House, co-owned by San Diego restaurateur Alberto Morreale, borrows from Cobb’s fascination with astrology and his background in the Las Vegas entertainment industry.

Cobb said he felt North Park was perfectly suited for the venue, given its proliferation of mystic and palm-reading shops.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Cobb said he hopes to eventually host fundraisers and events for gay charities and causes and wants to make sure everyone feels welcome at the restaurant.

“I just really want it to be a place where people feel like themselves,” Cobb said, “It (can) make (people) nervous because of its high-end inspiration. (I want people) to just come in and have a good time.”
