SAN DIEGO — Jean Stone, 96, passed away December 27, 2022, at Scripps Memorial Hospital. She was born, October 17, 1926, in Lebanon, Ohio, the daughter of Lloyd and Helen (Schenck) Hancock.

Jean graduated from Lebanon High School, class of 1943. Following graduation, she attended University of Cincinnati College-conservato­ry of Music, 1943-1947. She was a member of Delta Omicron Sorority.

She married Denzel Howard Stone, who passed away in 1960 leaving her with six children, Lyle, Holly, Terry, Shelley, Bruce, and Heidi. She is survived by Lyle Stone, Holly Hagan, Terry Stone, Shelley Shumaker, and son-in-law, Tom Marosz.

Jean was a noted voice instructor, concert soprano, and director of choirs in San Diego. Her profession­al teaching career encompasse­d positions at San Diego State University (19671980), and Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington 1982, until she retired. After retiring, she lived in La Jolla, Ca, until 2018, then lived with her daughter, Holly Hagan in Mira Mesa, San Diego, until her passing. She continued to teach voice into her 90s.

She was a member of Northminst­er and Pacific Beach Presbyteri­an churches. She loved family, church, traveling, reading, and hosting gatherings. She is best known for her remarkable singing voice, ability to bring out the best in others, and being a single parent to 6 children.

Celebratio­n of Life Service will be held at Pacific Beach Presbyteri­an Church, 1675 Garnet Avenue. San Diego, CA, 92109, on January 14, 2023, at 2:00 PM
