Christensen joins Blakespear’s office as district director
Jack Christensen has been hired as district director for newly elected state Sen. Catherine Blakespear, who represents California's 38th Senate District.
In his new role, Christensen will be responsible for ensuring that all 975,000+ residents within District 38 are part of the policy making process. He'll also serve as Blakespear's principal representative while she's in Sacramento.
Christensen will lead a team of nine district representatives helping constituents navigate state agencies, keeping stakeholders apprised of state legislative activities and representing the senator around the region.
Blakespear, a longtime Encinitas resident and the city's former mayor, was elected Nov. 8. District 38 encompasses part of southern Orange County as well as Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas and Vista, south to Carmel Valley, La Jolla, Pacific Beach and Mission Beach.
Christensen called it “an honor and privilege” to serve district residents and Blakespear.
Most exciting thing about his new role: “What I'm most excited about is being a part of a team who is highly motivated to tackle some of California's — and our district's — most complex policy problems. I'm inspired by Sen. Blakespear, who dropped two bills in her first few minutes as a senator to tackle homelessness and gun violence. Working as a team, with the community and so many other stakeholders, we can truly make a positive impact and I can't wait to get to work.”
One piece of career advice or encouragement for others: “Being kind and working hard are two guiding principles I try to live by. Those principles have opened up so many doors and opportunities. We truly have no better day than today to make a difference and through kindness and hard work, we can do big things.”
Christensen accepted the post after serving as senior government relations officer for the San Diego Association of Governments. At SANDAG, he was the lead regional affairs officer and principal liaison to the agency's board of directors, developing strategies for key projects and initiatives.
Before joining SANDAG, Christensen worked for nonprofits throughout the San Diego region, including South Bay Community Services (SBCS) and the Vista Community Clinic.
