Monster Jam, MLK parade, winter fest, meetings and more on tap
We may have had a cold and rainy start to January in San Diego, but the month is heating up in the events and activities department with a wide range of options on the calendar. Whether you're interested in monster trucks, celebrating a civil rights icon and/ or building leadership skills we've got you covered in this week's column:
Monster Jam continues at Snapdragon Stadium
For two weekends this month, Monster Jam is bringing its famous motorsports event to San Diego. It might be too late to go today, but don't worry, tickets are still available for the Jan. 14 and 15 shows.
Open to the entire family, the jam invites world-class drivers to hit the mud and compete in their 12,000-pound monster trucks on a special course at Snapdragon Stadium.
Each day starts with a Monster Jampit Party — which requires a separate admission ticket — where you and yours will be able to see the monster trucks up close, meet the drivers and get autographs and photos. A play area with inflatable slides, a remote control truck course and other fun activities will also be available.
Visit www.monsterjam.com for more information.
Winter Festival to warm up Poway Community Park
Poway will host its annual winter festival from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Poway Community Park. The free festival features faux snow for building snowmen and making snow angels, campfires for roasting marshmallows, a free photo booth, sledding and even a synthetic ice skating rink.
Food vendors will be on site so come ready to munch. Make sure to have cash on hand as there won't be any ATMS nearby.
Free shuttles to and from the event will depart from the Poway City Hall parking lot at 13325 Civic Center Drive and from the Boys and Girls Club parking lot located at 12988 Bowron Road.
Poway Community Park is at 13094 Civic Center Drive. More details are available at www.poway.org.
