-

ESCONDIDO, CA — With broken hearts we share the news that Jake Karl Van Ostaeyen passed from this world unexpectedly on November 20, 2022, at the young age of 30, at his home in Portland, OR. Those who knew Jake, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives.

Jake (Jakey, Jakeman, Wakey) was born June 09, 1992, in Escondido, CA. As soon as he could walk, he was on the go and looking for adventure! Jake always kept life interesting with his antics and “Jakeisms” (like bringing a lizard to school but forgetting his shoes). The stories he provided and the laughs we’ve shared are priceless. Jake was extremely creative and an exceptional artist. He used these talents to become an accomplished carpenter and cabinet installer, a trade he learned from his dad. They worked together for most

June 9, 1992 - November 20, 2022 of Jake’s life.

Jake had an incredible smile, contagious laugh, and a knack for making you laugh with his funny life stories. He was known for his long hair (which was donated to kids with cancer), his eclectic clothes that only he could pull off, his amazing cooking skills, his love of food (no one could pick a good cheese like Jake) and his appreciation for the finer things in life. More importantly he is known for his kind soul, his generosity, and his

ability to see the best in people.

He was a big presence in any room he entered and loved getting to know people from all walks of life. He had an amazing ability to make deep connections quickly and made a lasting impression on those who knew him. He was a true friend to many.

In Jake’s short life, he saw beautiful places and had many beautiful moments filled with love and laughter. He also had some dark moments of sadness and despair, which gave him a deep empathy for others. He loved with his whole heart and was looking forward to a life filled with adventure, travel, and making more memories with family and friends. We all wish we could have more time with our Jakey, but will cherish and hold onto the brief, but beautiful time we were given.

Jake will be missed dearly by his father, Paul, his mother, Pam, his sister, Megan and her fiancé Cameron, his grandmothers, Maxine and Bernice, his loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many great friends. We will forever remember his smile, his laugh, his loving heart, and his sweet, unique soul.

Jake, it was a privilege to have you in our lives and we will always love you. May you be at peace and rest in paradise until we meet again.

A Celebration of Life honoring Jake will be held Saturday, February 4th at 2:00 pm at the Rock Church San Marcos, 1370 W San Marcos, Blvd, San Marcos, CA 92078. In honor of Jake’s memory, see the best in others and always be kind.
