EL CAJON — Sue B. Campbell passed away peacefully January 3, 2023 at home after a brief illness. She was 99.

Sue was born and raised in Columbus and Emporia, Kansas, to Gladys and Fred Baldwin. At the beginning of WWII the family moved to Coronado where she met and married Hugh Campbell. While he was overseas, Sue worked for Convair as a technical illustrato­r.

After the war, the Campbells lived in Chula Vista, where they raised their three children. Sue was active in the community belonging to several organizati­ons and clubs including PEO, Chula Vista Community Hospital Auxiliary, Woman’s Club, Dance Club, Bridge Club, and various church organizati­ons. She was known as “the hostess with the mostess” and a best buddy and surrogate mom to many.

Known for her artistic talents, Sue was an ASID interior designer, Florist, Artist and night school teacher. Like the hummingbir­d she loved so much, she was tiny, fierce and exquisitel­y beautiful.

Sue is survived by her son, Tim (Joann) Campbell and daughter Christine (Miles) Hildebrand, seven grandchild­ren and nine great-grandchild­ren. She is preceded in death by her husband Hugh and son Dennis (Connie) Campbell, brother Eberle Baldwin and sister Barbara Schiell.

A celebratio­n of life will be held February 4th at 1 PM at San Carlos United Methodist Church, 6554 Cowles Mtn. Blvd, San Diego. Memorial donations can be made to San Diego Brain Tumor Foundation or San Carlos United Methodist Church.
