SAN DIEGO — Kathleen Marie (O’brien) Meyers passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023 at her home in Oceanside, CA surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John Thomas Meyers, Jr. (2020). She passed away on the same day as their 69th wedding anniversar­y.

Kathleen was born on September 28, 1932 in Los Angeles, CA to Edward and Margaret (Mcfadden) O’brien. She grew up in El Paso, TX and often visited Juarez, MX where she acquired her love of Mexican food and Mariachis. In high school she moved to Pasadena, CA where she met John at the church Phillipian Club. Kathleen and John were married in 1954, and together they raised five children in West Covina, CA. Kathleen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r, greatgrand­mother and aunt. She worked as a secretary

September 28, 1932 - January 16, 2023 for the Household Finance Company and as a clerk supporting school counselors at West Covina High School before she and John retired to Oceanside in 1995.

Kathleen lived a life of service and was a devoted Kiwanian, winning dozens of awards for her commitment to improving membership and participat­ing in many charity causes (Walk for Life, Children’s Hospital, and supporting women’s shelters). She was always the first to volunteer, donating handmade craft projects

for fundraiser­s, knitting hundreds of baby hats for hospitals, and often spending her holiday time wrapping presents for military families. Kathleen was especially devoted to The Garden of Innocence project, in which she made small blankets with great love to provide dignified burials for abandoned and unidentifi­ed babies.

Kathleen is survived by her five children, Joseph Meyers and his wife Gayle of Renton WA, David Meyers of Big Sur, CA, Patricia (Trish) Hatch and her partner Dae Elliott of San Diego, Paul Meyers and his wife Melody of Bakersfiel­d, CA, and Steven Meyers of Los Angeles, CA. Kathleen is also survived by eleven grandchild­ren: Patrick, Andrew P., and Daniel Meyers; Brian, Michael, and Gregory Hatch; Kayleigh, Kelsey, Ashleigh, and Shelby Meyers; Andrew J. Meyers; and two great-grandchild­ren Nolan and Emery Hatch.

In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews who love her dearly. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Kathleen’s in-home caregivers: Concepcion, Norma, Blanca and Jossie.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Kathleen’s visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023 at Oceanside Mortuary (602 S. Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA 92054). A Rosary will be offered at 1:15 p.m. at San Luis Rey Old Mission Church (4050 Mission Ave, Oceanside, CA 92057) followed by a Mass of the Resurrecti­on at 1:30 p.m. Kathleen’s family will receive guests at her Oceanside residence at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow on Friday, February 3rd at 11:15 a.m., at Miramar National Cemetery.
