Saturday, Nov. 4, at 6:30 p.m.: World premiere of Texu Kim’s Welcome Home!! Fanfare for Jacobs Music Center (commissioned by the San Diego Symphony); Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks; West Coast premiere of Billy Childs’ Saxophone Concerto (co-commissioned by the symphony); Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate; and Debussy’s La mer; conducted by symphony music director Rafael Payare, featuring saxophonist Steven Banks and soprano Liv Redpath.
Saturday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m.: New work by Carlos Simon (commissioned by the symphony); Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in C minor, “Resurrection”; featuring Rafael Payare, soprano Angela Meade, mezzo-soprano/ contralto Anna Larsson and the San Diego Festival Chorus.
Friday, Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 18, at 8 p.m.: Bartok’s The Miraculous Mandarin Suite; Villalobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 7; world premiere of Tarnopolsky’s Danse Macabre, a San Diego Symphony-commissioned work; and Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring; featuring Rafael Payare.
Friday, Dec. 1, and Saturday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m.: Dawson’s Negro Folk Symphony and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” conducted by Joshua Weilerstein.
