PSAR RECOGNIZES BLACK HISTORY MONTH

The Pacific Southwest Associatio­n of Realtors (PSAR) is joining the California Associatio­n of Realtors (CAR) in recognizin­g Black History Month in February. CAR recently highlighte­d the history of three Black California­ns who built successful real estate businesses. They included: Biddy Mason, who worked in Los Angeles in the late 1800s and successful­ly gained her freedom from slavery in a California court; Mary Ellen Pleasant, who built wealth as a San Francisco real estate investor after the Gold Rush and was successful in her lawsuit against streetcar carriers who refused service to Black riders; Willis Carlson, who founded the California Reatlist chapter in 1949 to serve Black realtors who helped clients facing housing discrimina­tion.
