Gail Yvonne ‘Gammie’ Marshall

February 20, 1938 - January 13, 2023

SAN DIEGO — Gail Yvonne Marshall, age 84, of San Diego, California, passed away January 13th, 2023.

Gail was born on February 20th, 1938 to Bernice and Harold Vetter. The youngest of four siblings, Gail embraced her large family and considered her community family, as well.

After graduating from San Diego State University, she married Dave Jessop Jr. and was blessed with three daughters. She remarried in 1975 to Phillip Marshall and moved to a home in Del Cerro which she, her daughters and grandchildren all call home to present day.

Gail dedicated her career to enriching the lives of children through her work as a Reading Specialist for the San Diego Unified School District. She impacted countless lives through direct service, mentorship, training events and consultations.

Gail was an advocate and active member of P.E.O. Chapter AR, Kappa Delta Sorority Alumni Association of San Diego State University, the

International Reading Association and First United Methodist Church.

Gail was predeceased by her daughter, Kimberly, husband, Phillip, and brothers George, Norman, and Richard. Gail is survived by daughter Jill Lott, husband Doug and grandson Lucas, as well as daughter Suzy Sullivan, husband Jim and granddaughters Megan, Erin and Patrick. Gail rejoiced in her relationship with her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Gail, her namesake.

Gail’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 10:30AM at the San Carlos United Methodist Church.
