Robert William Knox III
October 5, 1954 - January 22, 2023
ESCONDIDO — On January 22, 2023, after a protracted battle with colon cancer, Robert “Rob” Duran-knox, aka Robert William Knox III, met his Creator surrounded by family and friends, as well as the sound of his favorite guitar. Born on October 5, 1954, to Robert William Knox
II, a Merchant Marine and Revlon & Cody Cosmetics representative, and Gloria Blau, a choir director and Pastor’s daughter, Rob was a perfect blend of artist and salesman. Growing up in the Sacramento area, Rob worked at Bank of California while finding the time to tour and record with Christian rock band The Hallelujahs. Following his family to San Diego, he traded his guitar for a journalist’s steno pad and camera and, later, a set of law books. Gaining admission to law school without a college degree, Rob passed the California Bar Exam upon completing his education at Western State University College of Law, San Diego. Aspiring to be an entertainment lawyer, a blind date and whirlwind relationship with Karen Duran, a Georgia transplant, led to marriage on February 14, 1979, and a follow-on 44-year love affair. Building a new life and family with Karen, Rob became a decorated U.S. Army officer, a proud father of three boys, and a career prosecutor with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. Rob loved his work in the collaborative courts, where he transformed the lives of defendants recovering from addiction. He also treasured spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Robert IV, John and David; beloved daughter-in-law Sarah Ellen; two cherub-like grandchildren, Robert V and Elena Joy; as well as his five siblings, Sharlyn, Scott, Craig, Candace and Christal. While his family mourns the loss of a loving husband, brother, father and grandparent, they rejoice that he is alive forever in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
