La Mesa offering free street trees The city of La Mesa is offering free street trees to eligible residents who have a “public
right-of-way” strip (the space between the sidewalk and curb edge that is usually grass or gravel) outside their singlefamily homes. The project is funded through the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program and supports the city’s Climate Action Plan tree canopy goal. Having more trees can mean improved air quality, less stormwater runoff, more shade, and better soil health. Learn more and sign up for a free tree at bit.ly/ Wateringagreement.
Lemon Grove Lions support graffiti cleanup The Lemon Grove Lions Club is
operating a graffiti cleanup service for property owners who need help. The city of Lemon Grove only removes graffiti from city property. If a private property is tagged, property owners must remove it within a few weeks or face fines. For some, this can be a hardship. Seeing a need, the Lemon Grove Lions stepped up and funded a graffiti abatement project with help from the California Lions Foundation. Lions Club member David Eckler leads the project with his friend Josh Klein, a veteran. Together they spend several days a week covering up graffiti tags in the city. Home Depot has offered them discounted paint for the project, and the local Lions add funding. For details, contact Lions Club President Ken Burke at (619) 469-7350.
