PSAR OPPOSING POINT-OF-SALE FEES

The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR) recently submitted a letter to the County of San Diego opposing a proposed point-ofsale (POS) fee on housing transactions. PSAR’S letter from Jason Lopez, 2023 PSAR president, said punishing homebuyers with POS fees for energy audits will achieve very little, long-term environmental benefits. In addition, PSAR said POS fees will add another tax burden and make it more difficult and expensive to buy a home. The letter said, “Why punish the real estate industry with another fee? Aren’t surging mortgage rates and heightened economic uncertainty enough challenges for consumers to overcome to participate in the California housing market?” For more information, visit www.psar.org.
