Chula Vista invites clean-up volunteers
The city of Chula Vista is holding a Spring Cleaning event from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 11. All ages are welcome to meet at the Otay Recreation Center, 3554 Main St., to prepare to clean the neighborhood’s storm drains. For details or to register, visit bit.ly/41upxmj.
Otay Ranch T.C. offers free classes
Otay Ranch Town Center offers a “Spring Into Fitness” week with free classes and activities from March 6-13. Several of the shopping center’s tenants are offering classes and activities for folks to sample, including Namaste Fitness, one free fitness class; Deseo Dance Studios, free adult dance classes; Orangetheory Fitness, two free classes; Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu, two free classes; and more. Bonita museum seeks Vietnam stories
The Bonita Museum & Cultural Center is collecting stories and memorabilia from South Bay San Diego Vietnam veterans for the upcoming exhibition “Vietnam Veterans, We Thank You,” opening March 9. This exhibit will honor local veterans’ stories and Vietnam War history, and honor the fallen. To contribute stories, photos or memorabilia, contact curator Heather Gallana at heathergallana@gmail.com, or call (310) 938-6683. An Honor Ceremony for Vietnam veterans will be held at 11 a.m. March 25 at the Bonita Veterans Memorial next to the museum. There will be a reception and community resources for veterans at the event. The Bonita Museum & Cultural Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at 4355 Bonita Road. College district names new administrator
Laurie Coskey has been named vice chancellor of Development and Entrepreneurship by the San Diego Community College District. The new position will be responsible for building stronger initiatives to promote student success and ties with philanthropists, private and public foundations and government entities focused on funding. Coskey is a longtime San Diego resident who has served for the past five years as CEO and executive director of the San Diego College of Continuing Education Foundation. Before coming to the district, she was president and CEO at the United Way of San Diego County and executive director at the Interfaith Worker Justice San Diego.

Credit union offering scholarships North Island Credit Union invites college-bound students in San Diego County to apply for its 2023 Student Scholarship
Program. The credit union provides $20,000 in scholarships annually to students. Those eligible are San Diego County collegebound high school seniors and community college students transferring to four-year universities who are maintaining a 3.0 average. Tijuana Estuary Reserve seeks vols
The Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve is recruiting for several volunteer opportunities: Special Event Tabling Docent; School Program Docent; Friday Morning Stewardship; Research Volunteer (seasonal); Restoration Guide (volunteer leader). Altrusa Club hosts fundraising luncheon
The Altrusa Club of Chula Vista Inc. Foundation hosts “Denim and Diamonds,” a luncheon fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. March 11 at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort. Enjoy music, food and drinks while supporting the South Bay community. The club will be awarding its inaugural Literacy Champion award and collecting gift cards for low-income high school students of the Sweetwater Union High School District.
