E.C. residents asked to take plaza survey

The city of El Cajon is working with San Diego State University for ideas on how to use the space at Parkway Plaza. Members of the El Cajon community are being asked to take a brief survey to help give ideas and priorities for the site. Find the survey at bit.ly/3egxzyq.

Free bokashi composting workshop

The Pine Valley library branch hosts “Free Backyard Composting and Bokashi Basics,” a free workshop by the Solana Center for Environmen­tal Innovation, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Learn the basics of traditiona­l composting and about bokashi, a fermentati­on method that allows composting of all food waste, including meat, dairy and liquids. ‘Peep Show,’ ‘Chick Day,’ coming up

Hawthorne Country Store in Santee hosts its annual free spring Chick Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 10845 Woodside Ave. The event will offer more than 100 varieties of baby poultry and provides an opportunit­y for families to learn about raising chickens at home. There will also be a Peep Show from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The $50 charge for that event covers two adults age 21-plus. There will be hors d’oeuvres, beverages and entertainm­ent. The Peep Show gives customers the first pick of rare, exotic and the best egg-laying breeds. This event sells out every year and is only available for ticket purchasers. La Mesa seeks help planning facilities

La Mesa is seeking input from residents to help plan future park, recreation and library facilities and programmin­g.
