Upscale brunch eatery earning fans in Eastlake

Sunday Breakfast Society is charming restaurant-goers in the South Bay with an elevated brunch experience available all day.

“We decided to invest a lot in the interior design and the food and create a space (in Eastlake) where people would like to go and dress up and take pictures,” said Chantelle Godinez, who founded the restaurant with her sisters Velvet and Crystal.

The trio brought a touch of glamour to their new restaurant with pink hues and an old Hollywood glam feel. The breakfast-only venue has custom decor pieces curated with the help of Tijuana-based architectural company, Many Faces.

2322 Proctor Valley Road, Chula Vista

Some of the interior details include a Brazilian pink onyx countertop and gold-fish scale tiles imported from the United Kingdom.

The Godinez sisters aren’t newbies to the restaurant industry — for 14 years they have owned Don Rafa Birrieria, a birria restaurant in Chula Vista serving breakfast and lunch. In fact, the star item at Sunday Breakfast Society is the “birriaquiles” or chilaquiles, made with the Jalisco-style birria prepared at Don Rafa.

Other must-tries offered daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. are the bite-sized, Japanese souffle pancake circles served with milk and fruit, which are eaten in the same way you eat cereal. Mimosas are also on the menu, as are coffee drinks prepared in a custom, pink La Marzocco espresso machine. Specialty cocktails like sangria are coming in the summer.

Godeniz acknowledged some people are impressed that the restaurant is run by a three Latinas in a maledominated industry, but said she wants the food and hospitality to speak for itself.

“We want to feel proud because people actually like the place, not just because it’s Latina-owned,” she said.
