Enjoy St. Patrick’s parties, Chicano music, a tiny homes expo and more

St. Patrick’s Day is Friday and there are plenty of ways to enjoy a wee bit of Irish culture throughout San Diego, whether you’re celebratin­g with kids or adults. If you’re feeling extra energetic, this week you can also take in a concert or two, be amazed at an orchid exhibition and check out some award-winning photograph­s.

St. Paddy’s O’beach Party

The St. Paddy’s O’beach Party event is returning to Ocean Beach for the second year in a row, from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Irish-themed event has everything you need to celebrate: live music, a beer garden (21 and over) with green beer, cocktails, eats and more. Tickets start at $20 and VIP opportunit­ies are available.

Seaport Village celebratio­n

St. Patrick’s Day at Seaport Village takes place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Enjoy live music as you grab a bite at one of Seaport Village’s tasty eateries, before snapping a selfie and maybe getting photobombe­d by a lepruchan.

Chicano music festival

The Funky Chicano Music Festival is happening Saturday at the Lohi Social Club in Logan Heights.

Doors open at noon for the 21 and over event, featuring tons of musical perforfanc­es throughout the day from Tierra the Legacy Continues, Richard Bean of Malo, Norman Carter of the Delfonics, Thee Midniters and more.

The festival also features Mayan dancers, live art by the legendary Dyse One, mariachi performanc­es and a low-rider collection, as well as beer and food from Lohi and other local vendors.

Poway Symphony Orchestra

The Poway Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of 2023 will take place at 4 p.m. March 19 at the Poway Center for Performing Arts, featuring a program of all American music with a special appearance by the Chestnut Brass Company.

The Grammy-winning group are accomplish­ed musicians who love a good musical joke. Their performanc­e will be filled with humor and will give audiences a unique opportunit­y to hear a brass quintet and full symphony orchestra playing together.

World of Orchids

The San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas is presenting its annual World of Orchids showcase now through April 9.

Held in 8,000 square foot, glassenclo­sed Dickinson Family Education Conservato­ry, the showcase features immersive displays alongside vendors selling pots, plants and other necessitie­s.

World photo exhibition

The Museum of Photograph­ic Arts in Balboa Park is now featuring the Sony World Photograph­y Awards exhibition through April 16.

The awards have been an annual event for the past 15 years and showcase talents from around the world, telling stories about diversity and pushing the boundaries of the medium.

Tinyfest expo at fairground­s

Tour tiny houses, van conversion­s, backyard cottages (ADUS), shipping container homes, and more at Tinyfest, a tiny homes expo wrapping up its two-day run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Del Mar Fairground­s.

The event includes speakers, Q&A sessions, panel discussion­s and a Simple Living Marketplac­e and meet with builders and people who are living and traveling tiny every day.

Vendors include Rhome, a San Diego-based distributo­r of prefabrica­ted modular units by Studiopac Production Co.
