CORONADO, CA — Born in Washington, D.C. on October 2, 1935. Passed away on February 27, 2023 at home in Coronado, California. Judy was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin Nathaniel Ahl (US Navy Doctor) and Alice Lemon Ahl and her brother, John S. Ahl. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jeff Dennis of Coronado, her daughter Allison Dennis Agnew, her son Michael (Rose Nadine) Dennis and grandson, Riley Agnew.

Judy graduated from Pamona College, class of 1957. After college, she taught middle school in Monterey, California. She met Jeff at the United States Navy Postgraduate School in Monterey while sunning poolside. Before marrying Jeff on December 28th, 1963, Judy went on a world tour.

She loved to travel and that spirit of adventure lasted her entire life.

Judy married Jeff and they began their military life together, moving to various Navy locations both in the U.S. and overseas. Judy hosted many a festive party and was a wonderful cook. She made each new location a real home and invited others to be a part of her world through hosting get-togethers, creating fun opportunities for neighborhood families, and creating fabulous memories captured in her art works and photography.

At a young age she had an artist’s eye and keen talent. She became an accomplished watercolor painter, portrait artist, photographer, gourd designer, jewelry maker and could even turn a pile of pine needles into a piece of exquisite art. There was not a medium from which she shied away. Her passion for art was shared with longtime friends and she loved to create pieces and host art shows with them all. She had a close circle that included book club and art classes.

She was dedicated to her family and taught her children, Allison and Michael, and grandson, Riley, to love travel, art, books that make you want to be a better person and to never give up - unless of course you were playing Words with Friends or Scrabble or let’s face it, any game with her, in which case just enjoy the adventure and accept the defeat. She would make quick work of the New York Times crossword puzzle and enjoyed the challenge of a good wooden puzzle.

Judy and Jeff were devoted to each other and their love ran deep. With a rare thirst for knowledge and learning, Judy saw beauty across the globe and captured it in her art. Those memories and glimpses in time live on and we are all fortunate to have learned from and been loved by her.
