Music, theater, cars and more are blossoming in San Diego this week

San Diego is filled with the sound of music this week with a country music festival, a “flower power” tour, a tragic opera and a special way to support Ukraine. You can also enjoy some great theater in Solana Beach and a fun car show in Santee.

Flower Power tour arrives

The California Flower Power Tour is rolling into town this week, featuring performers who were part of some of the best and most famous bands back in the day. If you love music inspired by The Mamas & The Papas and similar groups, this concert is for you.

The local show is at 7 p.m. Saturday at The Grand Escondido. Tickets start at $35 and you can meet and greet some of the bands with an additional VIP ticket.

‘Cherry Orchard’ opens

North Coast Repertory Theatre is presenting “The Cherry Orchard” now through April 2.

Anton Chekhov’s beloved 1903 masterwork is a rich tapestry of the human condition woven into a humorous and haunting tale. With universal themes of societal upheaval, love, loss, grief, envy and ambition, “The Cherry Orchard” remains as relevant and powerful today as it was when it first premiered.

The local production is directed by David Ellenstein and stars Richard Baird, Ted Barton, Michael Louis Cusimano, Amanda Evans, Jackson Goldberg, Sofia Jean Gomez, Katie Macnichol, Riley Osburn, Michael Raver, James Thomas Snyder, James Sutorius, Katie Tang, John Tessmer and Bruce Turk.

‘Tosca’ at Civic Theatre

Puccini’s “Tosca,” is filled with all the drama you could ever imagine and you can catch a performanc­e this week, Saturday, March 25, with more performanc­es of the complicate­d Italian opera to follow.

Sung in Italian, the opera is subtitled in English and Spanish.

The San Diego Associatio­n of Car Clubs is hosting its first Fine Rides & Friends Car Show from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Pacific Islander Beer Company, 8665 Argent St., Santee.

Concert to benefit Ukraine

Support Ukraine and enjoy a special concert celebratin­g Jewish culture today at a special event presented by Yiddishlan­d and the UCSD Jewish Studies Program.

The event will be held at 5 p.m. today at a private home in Scripps Ranch where three of the world’s most in-demand Klezmer musicians will tell the diverse stories of Ukrainian Jewish life through songs.

KSON Country Fest

San Diego’s Country Station, 103.7 is once again hosting KSON Country Fest, this year at Petco Park on Saturday, March 25. Doors open at 3:30 p.m.. The lineup includes Lee Brice, Parmalee, Easton Corbin, Dillon Carmichael and Hannah Ellis.

Lecture on Federer book

This Thursday, the Coronado Historical Society presents “The Master: The Long Run and Beautiful Game of Roger Federer” as part of its wine and lecture series.
