Padres 11, Brewers 6

- KEVIN ACEE

Batter’s box: On a day in Peoria when Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto, Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts played together for the time, it was No. 9 hitter Luis Campusano who got the team’s first hit. It was the catcher’s second home run of the season. He doubled in his next at-bat. … Tatis followed each of Campusano’s hits with a single and has six hits in his past 12 at-bats. … Machado led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a home run. Machado’s double off the center field wall drove in Tatis in the fifth inning. … Trent Grisham hit an RBI double and is 3-for-6 with a double and a homer in his past two games . ... Jake

Cronenworth also homered, his second in two games. Balls and strikes: Brent Honeywell again showed flashes of why he has made a strong quest to be on the opening-day roster as a long relief option. But a second straight start in which he lacked command did not help him. Honeywell finished well enough, working two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit after a disastrous beginning to his day. He walked three of the first five batters he faced and was charged with five runs in his first 12⁄3 innings. After being replaced with two outs in the second inning, he returned to start the third and issued a walk before getting three straight outs. In all, Honeywell allowed five hits and walked four in 32⁄3 innings. Extra bases: Who can make right field fun? Tatis. After catching a fly ball in the second inning, Tatis threw a bullet on one hop to Campusano that froze the runner at third and prompted the kind of ovation from the crowd that is usually reserved for a big hit by the home team. Tatis playfully strutted across the grass before returning to his position.

On deck: Julio Teheran, battling along with Honeywell and Jay Groome for a spot, starts against the Cubs, 1:05 p.m. today in Mesa, Ariz.
