Free trees for
La Mesa residents
La Mesa is offering free trees to residents as part of the CAL Fire Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program, in partnership with Tree San Diego and Urban Corps. You may be eligible for a free tree if you have a public right-of-way outside your home or business, and can commit to watering and maintaining the tree. The city will assess the site before proceeding with the 15-gallon tree installation. Off-roaders host jamboree fundraiser
The San Diego Off-road Coalition kicks off its inaugural Jamboree from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 24 at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds to raise money to keep public lands open for off-road vehicles to enjoy. Enjoy food, 50-plus vendors, raffle prizes, microbreweries and RC car racetrack. Bring your own to compete for prizes! Presented by El Cajon Hobbies. Admission fee $20. Santee summer concerts return on Thursdays
The city of Santee hosts free Summer Concerts from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday starting this week through Aug. 17 (except July 6) at Town Center Community Park East, 550 Park Center Drive. Enjoy live performances and food from a variety of vendors. Bring chairs and blankets. Parking is limited and guests are encouraged to ride bikes to the events. Parking is available at the Town Center Community Park East parking lot and the lot at the city Aquatics Center/cameron Family YMCA. La Mesa seeks help on boards, commissions
The city of La Mesa is recruiting for several openings on various boards and commissions. Seats are open on the Community Relations and Veterans Commission, Community Services Commission, Design Review Board, Historic Preservation Commission, Environmental Sustainability Commission, La Mesa Community Parking Commission, Mobility Commission, Personnel Appeals Board, Planning Commission and Youth Advisory Commission. La Mesa celebrates Juneteenth on June 18
The La Mesa Juneteenth Foundation and San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce present a Juneteenth Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. June 18 at Macarthur Park, 4900 Memorial Drive. Enjoy food, art, music, dance, crafts, children’s activities and a marketplace featuring local vendors. The La Mesa Juneteenth Foundation examines the cultural heritage of enslaved African Americans and their descendants through art, entertainment, education, research and celebration. Art in the Park event in La Mesa
The annual Art in the Park Fundraiser takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the La Mesa Community Garden. The event is a fundraiser for the La Mesa Park & Recreation Foundation. Enjoy displays and a silent auction of work from local artists. Appetizers and drinks will be on hand, and entertainment is provided by Rolf Olsen Jazz Quartet.
