CHULA VISTA, CA — On April 10, 2023, Oscar Hernandez “Poe” Gil, 43, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, after a long battle with depression and mental illness. Oscar was born on September 23, 1979 to Oscar M. and Augustina Gil in Long Beach, CA. He is survived by his beloved wife, Allyson Gil; two step children, Dominik and Angelina; his parents, Oscar M. and Augustina Gil; and his sister, Victoria Gil.

Oscar graduated from Mar Vista High School in 1998 and received a BS in Business from California College of San Diego in 2019. He married the love of his life, Allyson Gil, in 2016; they were together for 12 years.

Oscar had just sarted a new career with the United States Postal Service in 2021 and he previously worked in Security Services for many years. He was also a Veteran of the Armed Forces in the United States Air Force.

Oscar was a very gentlenatured soul and very wise beyond his years. He was very thoughtful and kind, always thinking of others. Oscar was very conscientious in his dayto-day life at home and at work, and although very quiet and reserved, he was always smiling. Those that knew him best will undoubtedly say his most notable qualities were his infectious personality and his ability to adapt and find humor in anything; he could make anyone laugh or smile.

Oscar was very passionate about different aspects of philosophy and showed a great interest in learning about it. He was an avid collector of stones and rocks, stemming from his childhood. He was also a collector of Egyptian artifacts and collectibles. His greatest aspiration in life was to write and publish a book of his memoirs. He held his family very near and dear to his heart and relished every moment he spent with them.

Our precious memories fill our hearts with love and gratitude, and we will miss him terribly.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10AM on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Noble Drive, San Diego, CA 92122.
