PSAR: SCOTUS PROTECT PROPERTY RIGHTS

The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR) reports two recent Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) rulings upheld the rights of property owners. In a recent blog post to its 4,000 members, PSAR reported that in the case of Tyler v. Hennepin County, SCOTUS justices ruled the equity homeowners build in their properties is a constitutionally-protected right and cannot be unduly or unfairly seized by the government. Also, in the case of Sackett v. EPA, clarity was provided that helps property owners utilize their land to the fullest extent possible. The ruling said the government should not create excessive barriers in homebuilding. The National Association of Realtors applauded both rulings.

PSAR: RATES HIGH WITH INFLATION

The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR) reports mortgage rates dipped slightly after Congress recently solved the federal debt ceiling crisis. However, rates are expected to remain in the 6-to-7 percent range until inflation abates, said PSAR, citing a June 5 housing market report from the California Association of Realtors. Meanwhile, the decline in mortgage demand has slowed in recent weeks, along with a decline in new applications, while homebuyer demand is still below pre-pandemic levels. Although more jobs were created in May, more workers are worrying about their future job prospects. Also, industry experts are wondering if the Federal Reserve will raise rates again at its upcoming meeting June 13 and 14.

PSAR’S MACDONALD NAMED LADY LEADER

The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR) has announced that PSAR broker Laurie Macdonald, who will serve as 2024 PSAR president, will share her insights and experiences on a panel of seven successful women realtors at a luncheon event hosted by the Women’s Council of Realtors, San Diego chapter. The event, titled “Lady Leaders: Unleash the Power of Female Leadership,” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, June 15, at the Admiral Baker Club House, 2400 Admiral Baker Road, San Diego. Cost to attend is $35 per person. Macdonald also will discuss building networks and paving a path to successful leadership. For more event information, visit psar.org.

PSAR: FEATURES CAN RAISE HOME VALUES

The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors (PSAR) reports that realtors are advising their clients about home amenities that can increase the value of a home for sale. In a recent blog post to its 4,000 members, PSAR said some features that have the greatest impact on increasing a home price can include a doorbell camera, fenced backyard, steam oven, pizza oven, hardwood floors and a “she-shed,” where women can go to enjoy crafts and store favorite home decorations. Other popular home features buyers are willing to pay extra for can include soapstone and quartz kitchen and bathroom counters and terrazzo floors made of marble, granite, quartz and shell chips.
