Sheriff’s vols sought for Santee, Lakeside

The Santee and Lakeside Sheriff stations are seeking men and woman ages 50 or older to join their Senior Volunteer Patrols. Volunteers are a second set of eyes and ears for deputies. They patrol in uniforms (supplied) and drive marked sheriff’s vehicles. Duties include patrolling residentia­l neighborho­ods, shopping centers and schools, and doing traffic control, home vacation and elderly welfare checks, citizen assists and working at public events requiring traffic and/or pedestrian management. After completing a 10-day academy, volunteers are asked to commit a minimum of one six-hour patrol shift each week and attendance at a one-hour monthly meeting. Free class offered on downsizing

The Sharp Grossmont Hospital Senior Resource Center offers a free class, “The Downsizing Mindset,” from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, at the Grossmont Healthcare District Conference Center, 9001 Wakarusa St., La Mesa. This presentati­on will discuss the process of letting go and embracing the next chapter of your life in regard to downsizing. Chamber welcomes new restaurant

The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce invites the community to welcome Limoncello, a new Italian restaurant at 8273 La Mesa Blvd. The restaurant is still under constructi­on and plans to open before the end of July. Owner Alberto Morreale

has been active in the local restaurant industry for more than 30 years and owns several other restaurant­s, including Farmer’s Table locations in La Mesa, Bay Park, Little Italy, Tijuana and Chula Vista, Smokey & The Brisket BBQ in La Mesa, and the Seventh House in North Park. Sample items from the menu and meet the staff of Limoncello from 5:30 to 7 p.m. July 26, with a ribbon cutting at 6 p.m. The event is free to chamber members, and $15 for guests. La Mesa hosts e-bike presentati­on

La Mesa is presenting a free e-bike presentati­on and interactiv­e discussion with the San Diego Bike Coalition from 6 to 7 p.m. July 27. Presenters will share informatio­n about topics such as road safety, how e-bikes work, what kind of maintenanc­e they need, and how to use e-bikes.
