SAN DIEGO — Henry Maguire, 103, of San Diego, CA, passed away on July 9, 2023. He was born on June 14, 1920. Henry was a beloved husband to Katherine Morrison Maguire for 61 years and a loving father to his six children: John (Linda), Mike, Mary Wink (John), Jim (Becky), Peggy Kluge (Howard), Lisa Cantrell (Robert), and daughter-in-law Denise Maguire. Grandfathe­r to thirteen grandchild­ren: Brian Maguire, Meghan Sloan, Melissa and Michaela Maguire, Andrew, Peter and Michael Wink, Tommy and James Maguire, Jakob and Erin Kluge and Joshua and Alex Cantrell.

Henry dedicated his life to serving others. After completing his education, which included attending Washington College (’42) and the University of Maryland Medical School (’45), he joined the US Navy as a physician. Henry served his country with honor and distinctio­n.

Following his military service, Henry settled in San Diego and completed his OB/ GYN residency at Mercy Hospital then practiced as an OB/GYN for over 45 years at Mercy, Sharp and later Grossmont Hospitals. He was known for his expertise and compassion, delivering thousands of babies and many of their babies, touching the lives of countless families.

In addition to his medical career, Henry was an active member of the Cursillo community, where he encouraged his friends to join in the spiritual experience. He worshiped at St. Kieran’s Church for many years, finding solace and strength in his faith. After moving to La Vida Real Senior Living Community, he became a parishione­r at the Church of St. Luke.

Outside of his profession­al and spiritual pursuits, Henry enjoyed baseball and spending time with family and friends. He possessed a zest for life and brought joy to those around him. His faith, compassion and infectious belly laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on August 14 at The Church of St. Luke in El Cajon, followed by a reception in the church hall until 2pm followed by a private interment.
