Sweet Fallbrook shop creates custom macarons

Custom macaron bakery Savvy Macs is creating one-of-a-kind confections at its new storefront in Fallbrook.

The shop is owned by local mom and baker Courtney Sahagun and named after Sahagun’s daughter, Savannah. When the little girl turned 1 in 2019, Sahagun placed an order for macarons, a dessert she had never tried before.

Enchanted by how they looked and tasted, she wanted to try baking some herself. The challenge quickly turned into a hobby and then a passion. When firemen in Fallbrook started asking Sahagun for custom orders, the selftaught baker knew it was time to turn her pastime into a business.

After operating Savvy Macs out her home for four years, Sahagun recently opened her own shop at 936C East Mission Road.

“I wanted an opportunity to be able to expand the business…” she said. “This was kind of the perfect location for the community to be able to come in and purchase macarons as they pleased.”

The shop is open Wednesday to Sunday and offers nearly 20 flavors of macarons, including gluten-free options. Best-sellers include salted caramel, vanilla and lemon and a variety of seasonal favorites like while circus animal cookie.

Sahagun says the majority of her business are custom orders for special occasions, including birthday and corporate events. She creates different sizes and shapes, with edible printed logos, handwriting and hand painting.

Sahagun credits the close-knit

Fallbrook community with helping her succeed.

“...Being able to meet the customers that have been following me for years and have been really supportive over the years,” said Sahagun. “Having that personal interaction with them is probably the most rewarding (part).”
