Mayer promoted to engineering director for City of Vista
Greg Mayer, P.E., was recently promoted to engineering director for the City of Vista, officials announced in a news release.
Mayer was selected for the post by City Manager John Conley after being unanimously recommended by stakeholder groups of community members, city leaders and staff. He has worked for the city for more than 15 years, including as acting engineering director since March. He stepped into the permanent role in November.
“Greg Mayer is a proven leader in the field of engineering, and we are delighted to congratulate him on his promotion to engineering director,” Conley said in the news release. “His extensive experience, dedication to excellence, and commitment to community service make him the ideal candidate for the role of engineering director. I am confident that Greg will be pivotal in advancing our city’s infrastructure projects.”
Mayer is a licensed professional engineer with 32 years of professional civil engineering experience. He said he is “deeply honored to assume the permanent role of engineering director for the City of Vista, where I can continue to lead our team of incredible, seasoned staff.”
Following 10 years in the private sector as a consulting engineer, Mayer began the public service portion of his career with the City of Oceanside in 1998. After seven years in Oceanside, Mayer joined the City of Vista, where he currently manages the four divisions of the engineering department: traffic; sewer/stormwater utilities; capital improvement program; and land development.
His experience at the City of Vista includes leading priority projects, including the Paseo Santa Fe Streetscape projects, skateparks, fire stations, Sheriff ’s stations, the Townsite Complete Streets project and over $220 million of other public infrastructure projects, including streets, drainage, and sewer infrastructure projects.
“As a veteran of public service, my commitment to Vista is unwavering,” Mayer said in the news release. “I will continue to support City Manager John Conley and our dedicated city staff to deliver excellent infrastructure improvement projects to the community. Working closely with local, regional, state, and federal officials, residents, businesses and community leaders is crucial to upholding and enhancing the quality of life of our community.”
