9 people killed in Kazakhstan plane crash

-

Almaty International Airport said nine people were killed today in the crash of a Bek Air plane in Kazakhstan.

The aircraft had 100 passengers and crew abroad, and hit a concrete fence and a two-story building shortly after takeoff.

Officials said there was no fire and a rescue operation got under way immediately following the crash.

The aircraft was identified as a Fokker-100, a medium-sized, twin-turbofan jet airliner. The company manufacturing the aircraft went bankrupt in 1996 and the production of the Fokker-100 stopped the following year.

Drowning victims didn’t know how to swim

Spanish news reports said Thursday that a member of the British family whose father and two children died in a swimming pool on Christmas Eve has told police that none of the three knew how to swim.

The deaths of the 53year-old father, his 9-yearold daughter and 16-yearold son occurred Tuesday in the Club La Costa World pool in the town of Mijas.

Europa Press said the girl got into difficulty first. Her brother and father then jumped into the pool and tried to save her but all three drowned.

Canadian TV cuts Trump movie scene

A Canadian TV station removed Donald Trump’s scene in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” from its holiday broadcasts of the movie, media outlets report.

But is it actually a politically motivated jab at the president?

Canadian Broadcasting Channel, or CBC, removed the short scene with Trump and Kevin Mccallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, in the 1992 film, CBS reports.

In the scene, Trump helps direct the young boy to the lobby in the Plaza Hotel.

Trump supporters quickly criticized the edit, calling it “pathetic,” and the president’s son Donald Trump Jr. tweeted a story from conservative website Bizpac Review about the missing cameo of his dad.

The hosts of “Fox & Friends,” a program Trump frequently praises, panned the decision as a case of “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and “censorship.”

But CBC said there’s nothing political about cutting the scene.

“As is often the case with features adapted for television, ‘Home Alone 2’ was edited to allow for commercial time within the format,” CBC said.
