Woman dies in rollover crash near Warner Springs
CRIME, FIRE & PUBLIC SAFETY
NORTH COUNTY
A 60-year-old woman was killed Thursday morning in a solo-vehicle rollover crash at a rural intersection near Warner Springs, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 6:50 a.m. at the intersection of San Felipe and Montezuma Valley roads, nearly 5 miles southeast of Warner Springs, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said.
Witnesses reported that a vehicle occupied by three people overturned and was blocking northbound lanes on San Felipe Road, Bettencourt said.
CHP officials said two male passengers were seated in the front of the 2019 Toyota Camry and the woman in the back. The two front passengers were wearing seat belts but the woman was not.
CHP Officer Jeff Christy said the vehicle was traveling at a speed that prevented the driver from maintaining control of the vehicle.
The vehicle traveled off the road and crashed into a dirt embankment, officials said. The woman was thrown forward onto the front dashboard and windshield of the car.
The woman died at the scene. Her name was withheld pending family notification.
The driver and a passenger in the right front seat got out of the car after the crash. They suffered unknown injuries, Christy said.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.

A fire broke out in an Escondido home early Thursday morning, displacing two adults and two children, officials said.
The fire was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m. at the residence on Via Valle Vista near Via Loma Vista.
A second alarm was called due to access problems and firefighter workload. In all, seven fire engines, two trucks and two ambulances responded.
Escondido firefighters knocked down the fire in about 40 minutes. The flames were mostly contained to the roof and chimney siding, Escondido Battalion Chief Andre Paredes said. No one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials noted that the family had the fireplace going Wednesday night. Damage to the home was estimated at $10,000, fire officials said.
