Get a taste of winter at the city’s Temecula on Ice ice rink at Town Square Park, 41902 Main St. Admission is $12, skate rental is $5, and skating aid rental is $8. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday-thursday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. New Year’s Eve skating is from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The rink is open through Jan. 5. Through January PERRIS Youth Mariachi Program signups

Signups are now being accepted for the Youth Mariachi Program that begins in January. Youths ages 8 to 17 will earn traditiona­l Mariachi music history, instrument­s and performanc­e skills. New Year’s Eve Grape Drop

Ring in the new year Temecula style at the annual New Year’s Eve Grape Drop. Festivitie­s kick off at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center, 41000 Main St. Celebrate 2020 twice with countdowns at 9 p.m. to mark midnight on the East Coast, and at midnight West Coast time. There will be live music, food vendors and children’s activities. The free Fun Zone will be open from 6 to 10 p.m.

The city continues its free monthly Art Off the Walls program Jan. 3at The Merc, 42052 Main St. There will be an artist reception, featuring Walter Santos, and multi-artist exhibition at The Gallery, entertainm­ent and refreshmen­ts. Temecula Theater launches its 15th season of the Classical Music Series at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 4 with concert pianist and lecturer Jeffrey Siegel. Jan. 6 MURRIETA Dog Tales

The Murrieta Public Library holds its Dog Tales program at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 6. The program, in partnershi­p with Love on a Leash, provides trained reading education assistance dogs for children ages 3 to 12 to read to. Arrive early to sign up for a 10-minute slot. The library is at 8 Town Square.

Jan. 10 MURRIETA Father-daughter date night

The city will host a “Father Daughter Date Night Flamingle” for fathers and their daughters ages 3 to 11 at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Murrieta Senior Center, 5 Town Square. Jan. 11 HEMET Polar Plunge fundraiser

Take a plunge and help raise money for charity at the Valley-wide Recreation and Park District Polar Plunge event from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 11. The event is free, but donations will be collected for participan­t’s charity of choice or a general fund. Valley-wide is seeking nonprofits to partner with for the event. The Wildomar Coffee With the City series continues at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 14 with a discussion on things the city has been working on in 2019 and for the coming year. Held the second Tuesday of the month at The Corporate Room, 34846 Monte Vista Drive, the free events hosted by the city and the Murrieta/wildomar Chamber of Commerce provide an opportunit­y for residents to connect with city officials.

Pennypickl­e’s Workshop continues its Kids Only Club science activities on Jan. 15. The drop-off events are for children only, ages 5 to 11, and run from 3 to 5 p.m. The cost is $28 each and includes snack and drink. The Ronald H. Roberts Temecula Public Library will host a workshop on “Food Waste & Wasted Food: Organic Waste Reduction” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 23. James Rowland of the the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources will discuss the difference between food waste and wasted food, as well as programs and strategies to reduce waste. The city invites residents to recycle their old tires at its free community cleanup event from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 25 at the Public Works Yard, 521 N. Langstaff St. City residents may drop off up to nine tires — light truck and neighborho­od electric vehicle only — per trip. Rims must be removed. Proof of residency required.

Jan. 26 TEMECULA Celebratin­g Mozart

Celebrate Mozart’s 264th birthday with students of the Temecula Valley Conservato­ry of the Arts performing classical music in honor of the composer. The concert will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Ronald H. Roberts Temecula Public Library, 20600 Pauba Road. Refreshmen­ts will be served.
