Police probing deadly shooting in Mount Hope

SAN DIEGO

San Diego police were investigat­ing the fatal shooting of a person in the Mount Hope neighborho­od Sunday afternoon.

The shooting was reported around 2:45 p.m. on Raven Street near F Street, police said. The area is about a block north of Market Street, a few blocks west of Interstate 805.

The unidentifi­ed victim was taken to the hospital after being shot multiple times. The person later was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives were investigat­ing the shooting. No suspect informatio­n was immediatel­y released.

Man shot, robbery aborted in Mountain View

SAN DIEGO

A 21-year-old man was shot in the torso and arm during an attempted robbery in the Mountain View community of San Diego on Saturday night, police said.

His wounds were not considered life threatenin­g, San Diego police Sgt. Michael Tansey said.

The victim was standing outside his vehicle on Teak Street near South 39th Street when he was approached by two men around 11:30 p.m., Tansey said.

One of the men pulled out a handgun and said they were going to rob him. The victim told police he was shot twice while the assailants were checking his pockets. The two then ran away.

The victim drove to his girlfriend’s house to report the shooting and was later transporte­d by paramedics to a hospital for treatment.

Police did not release a detailed descriptio­n of the suspects.

Robbery thwarted at Carmel Valley gas station

SAN DIEGO

San Diego police are searching for a would-be robber who they said pulled a gun on a gas station employee Saturday night in an attempted robbery in Carmel Valley.

Police said the thwarted robber, who may have been a teenager or young adult, jumped behind a counter at the Shell gas station on Valley Centre Drive near El Camino Real around 11:30 p.m. and tried to take items from a wall display.

A female Shell employee, police said, noticed the person behind the counter and confronted him.

He pulled the gun on the clerk, didn’t say anything and then ran off.

The would-be robber was last seen running west out of the parking lot and it was unclear if he stole anything. Police said he was described as 15 to 20 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 120 pounds.

He was wearing black plants, black tennis shoes, a blue and green shirt, and another shirt wrapped around his face.
