Million-dollar homes help in housing crisis

- Tom Fox San Diego Karl Kozak Sr. San Diego Tom Scott Rancho Bernardo Scott Mac Laggan Point Loma Jack Strumpf Escondido

The advertisements against Measure B, the Newland Sierra project, imply only people from out of town will come here to buy these million-dollar homes. This is not correct.

People who are now making a good income and have equity in a home will just be moving up. This has been going on for as long as I can remember and it opens up lesser-priced homes for lesser-income families to buy into. And the cycle goes on until the lowest-priced homes are available for low-income families to buy or rent.

course Todd Gloria will march to the orders of the unions in San Diego as he’s been doing in Sacramento. He co-authored Assembly Bill 5 that’s put thousands of independent contractors out of work. It will push more workers to join unions.

Gloria says he knows how hard it is to make it. Yet at Tuesday night’s debate a speaker presented him with a list of 147 people who can’t work due to AB-5; he appeared confused and unable to respond.

Gloria doesn’t understand the impact of what he co-authored. We need a city leader, not a union leader. Vote for Barbara Bry or Scott Sherman.

A Republican will be useless in 77th

Re “June Cutter for California’s 77th Assembly District” (Feb. 17): I was astounded to read of the endorsement of Cutter for

the 77th District over Brian Maienschein. While I share your enthusiasm for improving our education system, Cutter’s election as a Republican dooms her to two years of not accomplishing anything.

One of the reasons Maienschein left the GOP was that when he voted to do something about affordable housing, he was punished by his caucus. As a moderate Democrat, Maienschein can get things done for San Diego that he couldn’t as a Republican.

Not every car accident needs a police probe

Why is there a trend now for police to go all “CSI” for even the simplest of accidents? The car crashing into a tree the other day, which was shown clearly on video, is a perfect example. Streets were closed for hours while an army of police “investigated” the

scene. It was more than obvious what occurred.

This happens much too often, usually at rush hour, inconveniencing thousands of people and wasting police resources. Wouldn’t the time be better spent enforcing the law?

Will Trump stay for ‘good of the country’?

Lately Donald Trump has been exercising his power by getting rid of anyone who opposes him. As president, he also said he could do whatever he wants

while governing this nation. With his probable re-election this year it’s not beyond his reach to challenge the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution that limits a president to two four-year terms in office.

There have been some politicians who have tried to get it repealed. They failed.

With Trump in the White House and his Republican cronies in Congress, I think he will try very hard to repeal it. If successful, we can expect a president for life in Donald Trump. How horrendous a thought.
