FOUTS ISN’T READY TO EXIT THE BOOTH

- BY DON NORCROSS Norcross is a freelance writer.

After not being retained by CBS as an NFL analyst, Dan Fouts says he has no plans to retire as a broadcaster.

“I do want to continue, yes,” said Fouts, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who quarterbacked the San Diego Chargers for 15 years.

Fouts, who turns 69 in June, has worked as an analyst for CBS and ABC for nearly 30 years. He worked at CBS for six years beginning in 1987, later moved to ABC for 11 years, then returned to CBS for the last decade.

Fouts and Ian Eagle made up the No. 2 team for the past six seasons. After declining to renew Fouts’ contract, CBS hired Fox’s Charles Davis to work with Eagle.

Asked if he has heard from networks since it became known he wasn’t returning to CBS, Fouts said, “Let me just say the canned answer: I’m exploring my options. I think I still have something to offer.

“I do enjoy the game. I love it.”
