CARLSBAD Pacific Ridge holds virtual arts showcase
The Pacific Ridge School Youtube Channel will be the venue for its Showcase of the Arts this Friday and Saturday. During two virtual performances, the school will celebrate the creative work of more than 50 students, including music, photography, theater, graphic design, dance and studio art. Make some popcorn, gather your family, and watch Showcase on your TV. Performances are at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, hosted by the Pacific Ridge School and Pacific Ridge School Alumni Association. Academy registration open for 2020-21 year
Registration for the 202021 school year is under way at the Army and Navy Academy, a college preparatory boarding school for middle and high school boys. The academy occupies a 16-acre oceanfront campus on Carlsbad Boulevard. Plans are to reopen the campus for boarding and day students this fall, after the spring semester in which the academy used a remote-learning program during mandatory campus shutdowns. The program included rigorous academics as well as character education, leadership development, physical fitness, personal discipline and virtual social events. DEL MAR District offering Spanish immersion
With the start of the 20202021 school year, the Del Mar Union School District will offer a Spanish Language Immersion Program in kindergarten. The program is open to district families whose children are turning 5 on or before Sept. 1 for kindergarten in 2020-2021. All students will have equal access to the program via a lottery, regardless of school of residence. Parents who wish to apply must view the information video on the school district’s website. Registration for the 2020-2021 school year is now open to all incoming kindergarten students as well as students new to DMUSD. NORTH COUNTY Student inducted into honor group
Athena Amanatidis, a student at Scripps Ranch High School, was recently inducted into the 100 High School Students America Needs to Know About. She was chosen from thousands of student applicants and is one of only five from California. Athena is the student lead for the Student Equity Ambassador program, which brings high school students from throughout the San Diego Unified School District to find ways to improve schools. She is on her JROTC unit’s senior staff, overseeing five drill teams, and also is one of 11 students on the district’s Joint Brigade Staff. Athena is club president for MECHA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán), where she advocates for Hispanic/latino students. This year, she also managed a team of students for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. 100 High School Students America Needs to Know About is a national competition through Workforce Careers Readiness that showcases the next generation of forward-thinking students. Student wins P.E.O. scholarship
Kimiya Ghassemzadeh was recently chosen by the International Chapter of P.E.O. to be the STAR Scholarship recipient of P.E.O. Chapter WS of Rancho Bernardo. She will receive $2,500 from the organization. Kimiya is the daughter of Marzieh Ghasemian and Majid Ghassemzadeh and is completing her final year at Del Norte High School. She will be attending UCLA this fall, majoring in biology. The STAR Scholarship goes to exceptional high school seniors.
