RAMS GO FIRST IN SOFI; BOLTS OPEN AT CINCY
Chargers’ first home game in new stadium the next week vs. K.C.
Sofi Stadium, the $5-billion football palace under construction in Inglewood, will host its first official NFL game Sept. 13 when the Los Angeles Rams play the Dallas Cowboys on NBC’S “Sunday Night Football.”
The other team in L.A., the Chargers, will debut in the stadium the next Sunday, Sept. 20, against the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Before that, though, the
Chargers will play their season opener Sept. 13 as the first opponent for this year’s No. 1 overall draft pick, quarterback Joe Burrow of Cincinnati.
Exact dates have not been announced, but the Rams and Chargers are both home the first exhibition weekend, Aug. 13-17, against New Orleans and Dallas, respectively. The Chargers will “host” the Rams the following weekend and then play at Seattle and San Francisco the final two preseason weekends.
The league and TV networks do not foresee the Chargers as a major player this season. The club has its mandatory Thursday night game Dec. 17 at Las Vegas, but beyond that has only one other prime-time game scheduled: Monday, Oct. 12 against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. All of the Chargers’ home games are scheduled for Sunday afternoons, although there is a chance the Dec. 27 game against Denver could be played the previous day or evening.
All this, of course, assumes there will be an NFL season played amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
And even if that happens, will fans be permitted inside to watch?
