Car fleeing deputies crashes; 3 hurt
A 34-year-old driver fleeing sheriff ’s deputies Sunday collided with another vehicle in Rancho San Diego, injuring himself, a passenger and the driver of the other vehicle, officials said.
The man will face charges of felony reckless evading arrest and reckless driving after being treated at a hospital, sheriff ’s Sgt. Brian Jenkins said.
Deputies tried to stop the man driving a Geo Metro shortly after 10:50 a.m. for a suspected traffic violation on state Route 94. The driver didn’t stop and instead headed west on SR-94 and began to pass other vehicles by going over the double yellow lines and driving into oncoming traffic, Jenkins said.
“As the driver of the Geo Metro approached the intersection of Jamacha Road and Brabham Street, he drove through a red light and collided with a black minivan,” Jenkins said a statement.
All three occupants of the vehicles were taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries not believed to be life threatening.
