7 neighborhoods focus of architecture tour
The San Diego Architectural Foundation puts the focus on seven diverse neighborhoods throughout the county in its sixth Open House San Diego (OH! San Diego) architecture and urban design event.
The free annual public showcase starts today and runs through March 12, offering a behind-the-scenes look at some of the county’s most significant buildings and public spaces. The event features areas in Barrio Logan, Chula Vista, City Heights, La Mesa, National City, San Marcos and southeast San Diego.
Participants will be invited to explore each neighborhood’s history and public spaces, as well as behind-thescenes views of architecturally and socially significant developments. OH! San Diego will offer options including self-guided tours, socially distanced outdoor experiences, videos, virtual tours and panel discussions.
The event is open to all ages and will feature a youth-focused exploration of design and architecture with the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, as well as the San Diego Architectural Foundation’s Built Environment Education Program.
Download tour maps and app (for those who prefer to use a mobile app) from sdarchitecture.org/program/openhouse. Participants can explore on their own (virtually and in person) on Saturday and Sunday, with additional programming, including virtual panels and presentations, now through March 12.
Participants are asked to wear face coverings, maintain at least 6 feet of distance and not to attempt to enter buildings unless they are open to the public. Contact openhouse@sdarchitecture.org.
