Most Americans favor reasonable gun control
Re “Thoughts, prayers won’t solve gun violence plague” (April 7): Thank you very much for the series on gun control. I appreciated reading City Attorney Mara Elliott’s op-ed about the ongoing gun violence epidemic.
“If we can put a man on the moon,” why can’t we get legislators to dedicate humane efforts and do the hard work to make churches, schools, workplaces and shopping safe? Why do obvious and incendiary lies like that of Sen. Josh Hawley, who says President Joe Biden ultimately seeks civilian gun confiscation, intentionally foment irrational behavior from gun owners?
There are millions of Americans who do not own guns; however, we still support others’ rights to do so: for protection, for legal hunting, for sport or target practice.
Killing children at Columbine, Sandy Hook and Parkland is not sport, it’s
murder. Politicians, legislators and reprehensible legal types continue to muddy the waters and use 4,000 words when four will suffice: “Thou shalt not kill.”

Why reject red flag laws that save lives by temporarily removing a firearm from a person who is demonstrating unstable behavior? My rights to live in a civilized society are violated daily. Enough is enough. Ellen Goren San Carlos
