COUNTY WEATHER STAYING COOL
National Weather Service says coastal areas could get a half-inch of rain by Monday, with some mountain snow
The cool, damp weather that San Diego County experienced Thursday will last through the weekend and be followed on Monday by significant rainfall west of the mountains and a bit of snow on the region’s highest peaks.
The National Weather Service says that a low-pressure trough will again produce a deep marine layer today, generating patchy drizzle.
The daytime high in San Diego will top out at 64 today, 67 on Saturday and Sunday and 62 on Monday. The seasonal high is 66.
Escondido will be 68 today, 70 on Saturday, 69 on Sunday and 62 on Monday.
Forecasters say a new lowpressure system will arrive late Sunday night and produce about a half-inch of rain at and near the coast by Monday night, and up to an inch across some inland valleys and foothills. Roughly two inches of snow will fall at and above 6,000 feet. Julian is not expected to rise above 45 degrees on Monday.
As forecasters have repeatedly noted, the county is badly in need of rain. San Diego International Airport has only received 4.36 inches of precipitation since Oct. 1. That’s 5.43 inches below average.
There’s good news for the surf community.
A swell out of the south will arrive today and generate waves in the 3- to 4-foot range throughout the weekend, mostly at 16- to 20second intervals. The biggest surf will occur in North County, where occasional sets of 6 to 8 feet are possible, the weather service says.
The sea surface temperature is in the 62- to 63-degree range.
