Health care group tallies 2020-21 grants

More than 30 groups received $1.3 million in grants, sponsorshi­ps or charitable help from the Grossmont Healthcare District during the fiscal year 2020-21.

The district reported its highest grantees were San Diego Freedom Ranch, a drug and alcohol rehabilita­tion center in Campo, which received $250,000; and the Grossmont Union High School District, which received more than $200,000 for its “Health Career Pathway Initiative” program.

The nonprofit Volunteers in Medicine was another top grant awardee, receiving $118,277 for its free clinic that serves more than 50,000 uninsured county residents.

Grossmont Healthcare District has since 1996 supported a variety of local nonprofit health-related organizati­ons through its grant program.

Other organizati­ons receiving grants during the year include:

• Alzheimer’s San Diego: $27,500

• Burn Institute: $34,000

• Center for Community Solutions: $25,000

• Challenge Center: $25,000

• Crisis House: $25,000

• ElderHelp of San Diego: $44,000

• Home of Guiding Hands: $69,000

• Home Start Inc.: $30,000

• Jewish Family Service of San Diego: $40,000

• La Maestra Family Clinic Inc.: $35,000

• Mama’s Kitchen: $25,000

• Meals on Wheels: $39,377

• Mountain Empire Union HSD: $25,000

• Noah Homes: $40,000

• San Diego Blood Bank: $30,000

• Serving Seniors: $30,000

• St. Madeline Sophie’s Center: $25,000

• Survivors of Torture: $25,000

Grant and sponsorshi­p applicants interested in the next round of awards can apply starting July 1 by visiting the district’s website at grossmonth­ealthcare.org/. There will be a virtual workshop about the district’s grants policy online at 10 a.m. on June 8.
