Numerous recent letters indicate numerous writers failed their civics courses and think America is a democracy. If it were, America would be ruled by only five populous states. This is why we live in a republic, consisting of sovereign states with their own laws and government­s, including voting laws.

States, like individual­s, have rights.

The voting rights act is simply another Democratic Party attempt to destroy the Electoral College and minority protection against a dictatoria­l majority. Even the ancient Greeks recognized the evil in this form of rule. So did our founders.

Go back to school people, assuming you can still find one that teaches the Constituti­on and the rationale used in its creation — a government with checks and balances.
