With benefits ending, local lawyer says lunch is on him

A San Diego lawyer has come up with an unexpected way to give back to the community.

After brainstorming with his outreach director, the founder of a boutique local law firm has decided to give free $15 restaurant food delivery cards to anyone over age 18 living in San Diego County who texts the code: SDC15 to Guy Levy Law at (619) 232-9900.

It’s Guy Levy’s way of lending a helping hand to offset the financial consequences of cutbacks in pandemic unemployment aid programs.

And there are no strings attached. No need to prove you had a COVID-19 vaccine or a COVID test or that you lost your job or were even collecting pandemic-related benefits.

You need only submit your name, address and birth date to prove eligibility. A $15 food delivery service gift card will be emailed immediately to you to be used at the restaurant of your choice. Levy assures that no personal information will be sold or shared. It will, however, be added to the law firm’s “friends and family” contacts.

Levy is motivated, he says, to share his own good fortune with other members of the San Diego community.

He emigrated with his family from Israel to the United States as a young teen and says he’s earned his own living since age 18. His law firm, founded 22 years ago, has expanded to 15 full-time employees.

Levy has long believed that small gestures of kindness set examples for his three children, ages 15, 13 and 11.

When his oldest son, Jordan, played in a soccer game in Temecula, for instance, a man with a backpack sat next to them at a restaurant lunch counter watching a football game on TV.

When the server approached for his order, the man repeatedly asked for a little more time. Levy surveyed him and realized he most likely was homeless.

When the visitor could stall no longer and rose to leave, Levy told the waiter that the stranger was with his family and invited him
