Toreros update: USD is riding a three-game winning streak. The victories have come against Pepperdine, Portland and LMU, a combined 2-8 in the West Coast Conference. You have to go back to 2013 for the last time the Toreros won four straight in the WCC. Not only is USD winless at the Marriott Center but the closest loss was by 12 points. Average margin of defeat in Provo: 23.8 points. Forward Vladimir Pinchuk is expected to return after missing the last four games because of illness. Guard Jase Townsend, who hasn’t played since Dec. 5 because of a broken hand, will be a game-time decision. Forwards Marcellus Earlington and Yavuz Gultekin have posted back-to-back double-doubles. Earlington (team-best 13.8 points per game) has scored in double figures seven of the last eight games. Because of make-up games, USD will play five games in the next 10 days.

Cougars update: BYU has sandwiched impressive wins against Saint Mary’s and USF around a Gonzaga loss. Guard Alex Barcello (16.8 points) is one of the nation’s best shooters (47.6 percent on 3s, 88.2 percent from the line). If Barcello finishes the season shooting 45 percent or better from deep, he’ll become the first NCAA player to shoot 45 percent or better on 3s for three straight seasons. BYU is noted for its push-the-ball-up-the-floor offense. But the Cougars have climbed to No. 22 in Kenpom on the strength of their defense. Opponents are shooting 39.6 percent (36th in the nation), 27.6 percent on 3s (16th).
